The Haramain High-Speed Railway will operate more than 3,662 trips during Ramadan, with capacity for over 1.7 million passengers, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) said preparations have been completed to increase travel capacity between Makkah and Madinah during the holy month. The seasonal plan includes more than 100 trips per day, scheduled to align with prayer times and the movement of Umrah pilgrims.

SAR also confirmed the purchase of 20 additional trains from Spanish manufacturer Talgo to expand future capacity. Delivery of the new trains is scheduled between 2028 and 2031.

Officials said the expansion plans support the objectives of Vision 2030 and the National Strategy for Transport and Logistics.

The Haramain High-Speed Railway operates trains that reach speeds of up to 300 kilometres per hour. The 453-kilometre line connects Makkah and Madinah through Jeddah and King Abdullah Economic City. Construction of the railway began in 2009 and commercial operations started in 2018.
