GCC-Russia meeting condemns Israeli attack on Qatar
text_fieldsThe Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Russia on Thursday strongly condemned the attack carried out by Israeli occupation forces against Qatar, calling it a blatant breach of international law.
The statement came after the 8th Joint Ministerial Meeting of the Strategic Dialogue between the GCC and the Russian Federation, held in the Russian city of Sochi.
In a joint declaration, ministers said the assault on Qatar’s territory was “a flagrant violation of international laws and norms, an assault on the sovereignty of the State of Qatar and a deliberate undermining of diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving security and stability in the region".
The meeting stressed that such actions demand a clear and firm international stance. It urged the global community to hold Israel “morally, politically, and legally accountable” and to adopt effective measures that would deter repeated violations of international peace and security.
The ministers also called on the United Nations Security Council to fulfill its responsibility in halting attacks and preventing their recurrence. They warned that a lack of decisive international action would escalate tensions, undermine stability and have “grave repercussions on regional and international peace and security".
