Eid Al Fitr announced in Saudi Arabia as crescent moon is sighted

Saudi Arabia has officially announced that Sunday, March 30, 2025, will be the first day of Eid Al Fitr, following the sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon earlier this evening.

Eid Al Fitr, one of the most significant Islamic holidays, marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. The occasion is celebrated on the first day of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic lunar calendar. As the crescent moon was sighted today, Ramadan will conclude after 29 days this year.

Earlier in the day, Saudi authorities had urged Muslims across the Kingdom to observe the sky for the Shawwal crescent on the 29th night of Ramadan. The successful sighting confirmed the start of Eid celebrations on Sunday.

In celebration of Eid, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development has declared a four-day public holiday for private and non-profit sector employees. The holiday will begin on Sunday, March 30, and continue through Wednesday, April 2. With the regular Friday-Saturday weekend following the official break, workers in these sectors are set to enjoy a six-day holiday, with work resuming on Thursday, April 3.

Festivities are expected to begin early Sunday morning, with special Eid prayers held in mosques and open spaces across the Kingdom. Families will gather for traditional meals, exchange gifts, and participate in various cultural and community events.

Eid Al Fitr, meaning "Festival of Breaking the Fast," is a time of joy, gratitude and generosity. It also marks the conclusion of a month of fasting, prayer and reflection for millions of Muslims across the world.
