9th Islamic Affairs Conference begins in Makkah with 60 nations

The 9th Conference of Ministers of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs in Islamic Countries has commenced in Makkah, hosted by Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance. The event, themed "The Role of Endowments and Islamic Affairs Ministries in Promoting and Consolidating the Principles and the Values of Moderation," brings together ministers and leaders from 60 countries.

In his opening address, Sheikh Dr. Abdullatif bin Abdulaziz Al Al-Sheikh emphasized Saudi Arabia's commitment to moderate Islam, countering extremism, and fostering coexistence. Discussions will address issues such as extremism, religious discourse and Islamic identity amidst cultural globalization.

Morocco's Islamic Affairs Minister Ahmed Toufiq stressed the importance of mosque neutrality and promoting moderation, while Egypt's Minister of Endowments Osama Al-Azhari highlighted the need to counter extremist narratives.

Gambia's Minister Hamat Bah praised Saudi Arabia's global moderation efforts and Oman's Minister Dr. Mohammed Bin Said Al Mamari addressed global challenges like hate speech.

Yemeni Minister Mohammed 'Aida Shabiba led the first session on extremism and platform protection, with further sessions planned throughout the conference.
