Saudi FM holds Talk on Gaza reconstruction with Arab ministers, US Envoy in Qatar

Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, met with his Arab counterparts and US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff in Doha to discuss the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip. The meeting focused on the implementation of a plan previously approved at the Arab League Summit held in Cairo on March 4, 2025.

Qatar’s foreign ministry confirmed on Wednesday that the Arab foreign ministers engaged in discussions regarding the reconstruction initiative. They also reached an agreement with the US envoy to maintain consultations and coordination on the plan, which is expected to serve as the foundation for rebuilding Gaza.

The Gaza Strip has suffered severe devastation following 15 months of Israeli bombings and military operations, resulting in the deaths of nearly 50,000 Palestinians. The destruction has left significant portions of the enclave in ruins, necessitating urgent reconstruction efforts.

In February, US President Donald Trump proposed relocating Gaza residents to neighbouring countries such as Jordan and Egypt. However, this proposal was firmly rejected by Arab League countries. The emergency summit held in March reinforced a commitment to rebuilding Gaza while ensuring its residents are not displaced.

The high-profile meeting in Doha was attended by Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty. Khalifa Shaheen Al-Marar, the UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and Hussien Al-Shiekh, Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, were also present.

The continued discussions between Arab nations and the United States signal a concerted effort to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. While the reconstruction plan has been established, further coordination and international support will be necessary to ensure its effective implementation.
