Press Conference held in Doha announcing 'Indian Community Festival: Passage to India 2024'

Doha: The Embassy of India, in collaboration with the Indian Cultural Centre (ICC), is gearing up to host the "Indian Community Festival: Passage to India 2024". Scheduled from March 7th to 9th at the picturesque Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) Park in Doha, this festival promises a vibrant celebration of Indian culture, art, and heritage.

This year's festival holds special significance as it commemorates the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Qatar and India. With a theme of "Passage to India," the event aims to deepen the bond between the two nations while showcasing the diverse cultural richness of India.

Set against the stunning backdrop of the Museum of Islamic Art Park, the festival will feature a wide array of activities designed to engage and delight attendees. From cultural performances and art exhibitions to culinary delights, visitors can expect a sensory journey through the heart of India.

Highlighting the creative talent of Qatar, a Photography Exhibition will showcase the works of 100 photographers from the country, adding a local touch to the festivities. Attendees can also look forward to captivating performances by renowned artists, including a Qawwali Troupe sponsored by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and traditional dance forms like the Mega Thiruvathira from Kerala.

In a gesture of appreciation, the festival will honour 40 long-term Indian residents in Qatar, recognizing their invaluable contributions to the community over the years. Categories include residents who have been in Qatar since before 1983, housemaids since before 1998 and domestic workers since before 1993.

To ensure accessibility for all, to and fro free shuttle transport service will be provided between the ferry and the venue during the event hours, with pick-up points to be announced closer to the date. Admission to the festival is free, inviting everyone to immerse themselves in the vibrant tapestry of Indian culture.

With the enthusiastic support of various socio-cultural organizations representing the Indian community in Qatar, the festival is expected to draw a large and diverse audience. Since its inception in 2012, "Passage to India" has become a hallmark event for Indian expatriates in Qatar, celebrating the fusion of Indian culture with the rich heritage of the host country.

With meticulous planning and active involvement, the Indian Cultural Centre, Qatar is committed to making this year's festival an unforgettable experience, further strengthening the enduring cultural ties between India and Qatar.
