The Sultanate of Oman's Supreme Committee has decided to suspend entry from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh until further notice to contain the spread of coronavirus, state-run Oman News Agency (ONA) reported on Wednesday.

The travel ban, effective from Thursday (April 24) 6 PM, includes passengers travelling from the aforementioned countries or those transited in these countries during the last two weeks.

The committee has also issued other restrictive measures such as not permitting children below 12 to enter shops, commercial complexes and crowded areas. All commercial institutions are advised to limit work at 50 per cent operational capacity and have been warned of strict legal actions in case of violations.

All educational institutions, including higher-education centres, public and private schools, are to continue remote learning. However, 12th graders, students attending practical exams, and students of College of Medicine and Health Sciences, and vocational training have been exempted.

The Supreme Committee called out all relevant authorities to monitor compliance and strict implementation of decisions, especially in outlets, markets, restaurants and cafes.

Meanwhile, according to the worldometer's stats, the Sultanate has recorded 183,770 total coronavirus cases, 1,926 covid-related deaths and recoveries at 163,750, as of Wednesday.
