Kuwaiti Emir urges transparency from new government

Kuwait: Emir Sheikh Meshal has called on the newly formed government to prioritize transparency in their actions, following the dissolution of the National Assembly amid political tensions.

On Monday, Sheikh Meshal approved a new government after suspending certain articles of the constitution due to alleged interference from politicians. He emphasized the need for transparency, especially amidst disputes and accusations of corruption between cabinet members and Members of Parliament (MPs).

"We affirm that we are entering a new phase of serious, responsible work and continuous, unlimited dedication to our homeland," Sheikh Meshal stated. He urged the new ministers to focus on enacting reforms beneficial to the country and to expedite development and economic projects.

The remarks were delivered during a ceremony where Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al Abdullah Al Sabah and his cabinet of 13 ministers were sworn in.

Sheikh Meshal urged the government to prioritize the implementation of long-awaited strategic development projects and ensure transparency in public spending. He assigned the ministers the responsibility of developing the economy and investing in human capital and innovation to achieve sustainability.

The previous government ministers faced accusations of corruption from MPs, while the cabinet blamed parliament for obstructing reforms. Sheikh Meshal warned that those failing to fulfill their duties would be held accountable.

Elections took place in Kuwait on April 4, and according to the constitution, a new government must be formed within two weeks. However, tensions between government members and MPs have caused delays in the process, a recurring issue in the country.
