Kuwait arrests Indian housewife over unlicensed medical practice

Kuwaiti authorities have arrested an Indian woman for illegally practicing medicine at an unauthorized clinic in the densely populated suburb of Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh. The arrest was made by detectives from the Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh Investigations Section under the Criminal Security Sector of the Farwaniya Police Command.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) announced the arrest on its official X account, highlighting it as part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal practices that pose a threat to public health and safety.

Despite being officially registered as a housewife, the woman had set up a clinic inside a residential property, equipped with medical tools including a stethoscope, a blood pressure monitor, various medicines, and infant formula supplied by the Ministry of Health. At the time of her arrest, she was found treating a child.

Investigations revealed that she had been producing and distributing unlicensed “folk remedies” in capsule form without any medical certification or government approval. During questioning, she admitted to lacking formal qualifications and a medical license, stating she sourced some medications from abroad and others from local pharmacies.

A security source told Arab Times that the woman primarily catered to undocumented expatriates who were unable to access public healthcare services. She reportedly charged them minimal fees for her services.

Authorities have since referred the woman to competent legal bodies and she now faces prosecution for multiple violations, including practicing medicine without a license and operating an unauthorized medical facility.
