KUWAIT CITY: Kuwait will remain under curfew until the end of Ramadan from 7 pm to 5 am as the Parliament has decided to extend the restrictions that have been underway from April 7.

The existing curfew, which is supposed to end on April 22, will now be extended till the second week of May.

Residents are permitted to walk in the residential areas till 10 pm, however, no vehicles are allowed during the curfew time. The Kuwait cabinet also permits delivery services from food outlets between 7 pm-3 am and to go shopping from 7 pm-12 pm.

However, a special online permit from the Ministry of Interior is required to step out for shopping or for any unavoidable appointments during the curfew hours. The maximum number of passengers in taxis is limited to two during the non-curfew hours.

During the month of Ramadan, distribution of iftar charity meals in the mosques has been banned and Taraweeh prayers (special night prayers) have been limited to 15 minutes.

The gulf state has also suspended all social gatherings, sports events and also ordered mandatory closing of commercial outlets during the curfew hours.

As of Monday, the Ministry of Health recorded 1,510 new COVID-19 cases and eight related deaths, making the total active coronavirus cases in the country to be 258,497 and 1,456 total deaths.
