Tehran: Iran has expressed readiness to restart “fair” negotiations on its disputed nuclear programme, provided Western nations demonstrate goodwill, Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on Thursday.

His remarks came just hours after three European powers moved to trigger a process aimed at reimposing UN sanctions on Tehran, reported Reuters.

In a letter addressed to European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, Araqchi wrote, “Araqchi reaffirmed Iran's readiness to resume fair and balanced diplomatic negotiations, on the condition that the other parties show seriousness and goodwill and avoid actions that harm the chances of success.”

The comments highlight Tehran’s continued insistence that future talks must be conducted on equitable terms and without measures that could jeopardise progress.
