Iran denies involvement in Hamas’ October 7 attack on Israel
text_fieldsIran's permanent mission to the United Nations has firmly rejected allegations that Tehran was involved in Hamas' surprise attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023.
The attack, which resulted in the deaths of around 1,200 people and the capture of 250 hostages, was one of the most significant assaults in the ongoing conflict.
Responding to claims reported by The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal, the Iranian mission dismissed suggestions that Tehran was aware of or linked to the operation. According to the reports, Israeli intelligence allegedly accessed Hamas' secret meeting minutes, suggesting Iran and Hezbollah were informed of the attack.
In its statement, Iran's mission emphasized that only Hamas' military wing in Gaza was responsible for the planning and execution of the operation, denying any connection to Iran or Hezbollah. Iranian officials have repeatedly maintained that while they support Palestinian resistance groups like Hamas, they were not involved in or aware of the attack on Israel.
The October 7 attack by Hamas has been followed by a large-scale Israeli military offensive on Gaza.
