Man who attacked Bihar CM mentally unstable: Police
text_fieldsPatna: The Man who attacked Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar two days back has been admitted to a hospital for psychiatric treatment, PTI reported.
The Patna Senior Superintendent of Police, Manavjet Singh Dhillion, said the attacker is at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH).
Dhillion told the media that the police conducted a thorough inquiry and found that neither the attacker nor his family has any criminal history. As per instructions, he was first examined at a community health centre and at the moment, he is undergoing psychological profiling at the PMCH. Specialists are involved in the process, he said.
The CM was attacked by a 32-year-old man in Bakhtiyarpur on the city outskirts on Sunday. However, CM's security overpowered him. The CM had instructed the security not to beat up the man and try to find the reason behind his behaviour.
Later, through a statement, the district administration disclosed that the attacker was a resident who had made attempts to suicide before. The man's mental condition had led to his wife living separate, taking their children with her, the administration said.
The CM has issued no action to be taken against the man, but his psychiatric rehabilitation is ordered to be ensured.
Meanwhile, the leader of the opposition Tejashwi Yadav insisted that the "security lapse" was indicative of the general law and order situation.
In the meantime, the Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav said that the security lapse indicates the faulty law and order situation. It is a deplorable incident. But it is imaginable how secure a commoner can feel if the CM himself is threatened, he said.
