9 more measles cases get reported in Mumbai on Wednesday
text_fieldsMumbai: The Maharashtra capital reported nine more measles cases on Wednesday, and the total number of cases in the same city in one year reached 505.
However, no deaths were lodged out of the measles (a disease commonly detected in children) on the day, PTI reported, citing the city’s civic body.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) informed that the death count had remained at nine since January 1 this year. However, five deaths have been reported here and suspected to be out of measles is yet to be confirmed.
BMC released statistics, which suggested that 36 children (with suspected measles symptoms) were admitted to hospitals on Wednesday. Thirty-nine other kids were discharged on the same day too.
It said that 65,338 children out of 2,60,739, from the age group 9 months to 5 years, were given additional doses of the measles-rubella vaccine.
Meanwhile, a state health report said that the measles tally has surged to 1,104 (till December 20).
BMC started vaccinating children with additional doses of the in the age measles-rubella vaccine in the age group of 9 months to five years through a special drive on December 15.
The department release said 34,804 first doses and 33,972 second doses of the measles-rubella vaccine had been jabbed on children across the state.
