Violation in reservation policy: NCBC stays recruitment interviews at EFL University

Hyderabad: The National Commission for Backward Classes stayed the recruitment interviews at English and Foreign Language University (EFLU) over OBC reservation violation allegations. Dr Sravan Dasoju, National Spokesperson of All India Congress Committee, approached the Commission requesting intervention in OBC candidate recruitment matters at EFLU.

The complaint letter by Sravan states, "The recruitment for 58 vacant positions including Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors, as the overall process, is being done against the prescribed norms set by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and also by the Constitution of India, violating the rule of reservations to OBCs."

In response to the complaint, NCBC instructed the university Vice-Chancellor to attend a hearing on February 5th. The Commission also warned the University administration that severe action would be taken if they did not turn up to the hearing. NCBC has been conducting hearings related to OBC matters in Central Universities since last year.

Dasoju claims that in response to his complaint earlier on January 22nd, Achary Thalloju, a member of NCBC, issued an order to VC and Registrar of EFLU to appear for a hearing on January 25th. However, the VC was absent at the public hearing, and the Registrar could not provide sufficient documents to clarify the matter.

Speaking with Madhyamam, Dasoju said, "There is a gross violation of OBC reservation in EFLU. We have informed the issue with VC earlier, but he did not reply. All the Vice-Chancellors in the country should respect constitutional rights. The denial of SC/ST/OBC/disability reservation cannot be tolerated."

The letter by Dasoju reminded Vice-Chancellor that "out of 63 actual positions that should have been given to OBCs, there are only 23 OBC teaching staff working at the University."

"A notice by UGC dating back to February 1st mentioned that it was mandatory to furnish reports along with statistical information with respect to teaching and non-teaching as well as admissions to all level courses and hostel accommodation," the letter added.
