Woman backpacker rates Indian cities, Kerala tops the list

New Delhi: A foreign female traveler rated Kerala among Indian states as ‘the calmest, cleanest, most respectful state’ after her jaunt across the country, The Free Press Journal reported.

Rating them on the basis of safety, comfort, and overall vibe, she made her honest review in the post titled ‘No sugar-coating, just my honest experience after weeks across 8 cities’.

Describing the national capital Delhi as ‘overwhelming’ and giving -1/10, she said she felt on edge and refused to recommend it for a solo female traveler.

While appreciating Taj Mahal in Agra, she said ‘the horns and scams in the city made it hard for her to relax alongside the overly pushy locals made it a lot stressful, thus ended up giving it 3/10.

She felt Jaipur ‘Better than Delhi and Agra’, but constant staring was a difficult problem, adding that the city was fairly safe for day-time exploration, giving it 5/10.

At Pushkar she found it quite refreshing after ‘a breath of fresh air’, alongside its spiritual vibe and respectful locals but she advised travelers to plan their evenings as it gets quiet after dark, thus getting 6.5/10.

Of the cities described so far, Udaipur scored 8/10 thanks to its scenic lakes, polite residents, and low chaos and she said it was nice to walk alone during the day.

Calling Mumbai ‘safe but unpredictable’, she noted women enjoying freedom in the city but she rated the city at 6.5/10. She felt Goa as ‘freedom’ and basked in its relaxing culture but warned travelers to be cautious during nightlife, still gave it 8/10.

Kerala topped her list calling it “the calmest, cleanest, most respectful state” and she urged new travelers to start their India journey there, giving the God’s Own Country 9/10.
