Wayanad man strangles wife to death, locks kids, attempts suicide

Wayanad: A man allegedly murdered his wife before attempting suicide in Panamaram near Kalpetta in Wayanad district, Kerala, on Monday. The victim, identified as Lisha (35), was strangled to death by her husband, Jilson (42), an employee of the Kerala Water Authority (KWA). After killing his wife, Jilson locked their two children in a room and attempted to end his own life. He first tried to hang himself from a tree but failed. He then consumed poison, slashed his wrists with a blade, and inflicted further injuries using a wood-cutting machine.
Jilson, who is in critical condition, was rushed to a private hospital in Kozhikode for treatment. Police believe financial distress may have driven Jilson to commit the crime, though the investigation is still in its early stages.
Around midnight, Jilson sent alarming messages to his friends, which were noticed early Monday by one of them. The friend alerted neighbors, who then discovered the tragic scene. Police have registered a case, and the investigation is ongoing.
