Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has announced a compensation package for building owners and entrepreneurs who suffered losses in the recent landslide at Meppadi in Wayanad district.

Under the decision, owners of shop rooms that were completely destroyed in the disaster will receive ₹7 lakh per unit, irrespective of the type or structure of the establishment. In cases where an individual has lost more than one shop room, an additional ₹2.5 lakh will be granted for each extra unit.

Entrepreneurs affected by the landslide will also be provided with financial assistance to help restart their businesses. The aid will be calculated at 50 per cent of the assessed loss, subject to sector-wise caps. Businesses in the manufacturing sector will be eligible for up to ₹20 lakh, those in the service sector up to ₹10 lakh, and those in the trade sector up to ₹7 lakh.

The State Cabinet has decided to release the required funds from the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund. The amount will be transferred to the Wayanad District Collector, who has been tasked with overseeing and disbursing the compensation to eligible beneficiaries.
