Thiruvananthapuram: Despite the Government and the PSC urge to move forward to implement forward reservation, the reserved posts of Scheduled Castes in the society remain vacant without appointments. An unofficial note issued by the Planning and Economic Affairs Department on November 2 states that there are 679 vacancies in 96 Public Sector Undertakings in the state, including 513 Scheduled Tribes and 166 Scheduled Castes.

The report also has some shocking information. There is not a single Scheduled Tribe in various ten institutions. There are no Scheduled Castes in the executive posts in the three PSUs. Since most of them are single posts, this is after not including them in the reservation.

According to the available data, there are 1,25,908 permanent employees in the public sector undertakings. 18,883 from Scheduled Castes and 2685 Scheduled Tribes. The report claims that Scheduled Castes make up 15 per cent and Scheduled Tribes 2.3 per cent. But it completely lacked in some institutions.

Kerala School Teachers and Non Teaching Staff Welfare Corporation and Minority Development Finance Corporation have not yet submitted the report. The Worker category of Cashew Development Corporation, Rehabilitation Plan Ration and Textiles Corporation and various categories under Water Authority and KSRTC have a number of vacancies in the Scheduled Tribes division.
