New Delhi: Congress leader Shashi Tharoor reacted to the criticism over his use of the word ‘ memorable’ to describe his visit to the landslide hit Wayanad, saying he meant it was something ‘ unforgettable’, NDTV reported.

Following trolls over his previous post, Tharoor responded on X: "For all the trolls: definition of 'memorable': Something that is memorable is worth remembering or likely to be remembered, because it is special or unforgettable. That's all I meant," Tharoor posted on X .

Footage showed the Congress MP on Saturday visiting the area and helped unloading relief supplies arranged by his office. It is reported that he met survivors and asked after their situation.

He told news agency ANI that his office had arranged some mattresses, adding ‘But all of these are just urgent, immediate responses. We have to think in terms of long term as well’.

In a previous post on X, Tharoor described the situation in Wayanad as ‘emotionally searing’, adding ‘"Picked my way through the rubble to view the destruction in the villages of Chooralmala, Mundakkai and Puncharimattam. Ground Zero was emotionally devastating - just imagining what it must have been like at 2 AM and 4 AM when families sleeping peacefully would have felt a fusillade of rocks and mud crashing into them, crushing their homes and their dreams.’

Sparking a row, he shared a video of his visit to the area he in another post he said: ‘Some memories of a memorable day in Wayanad.’

Several people questioned his choice of the word ‘memorable’ with BJP senior BJP leader Amit Malviya saying: "Deaths and disaster are memorable for Shashi Tharoor."
