Setback to Mamkootathil: Court refuses to stop arrest in 2nd rape case
text_fieldsThiruvananthapuram: The Thiruvananthapuram Principal Sessions Court has adjourned the petition filed by MLA Rahul Mangkootathil seeking anticipatory bail, in the sexual harassment case against him, to Monday. The court was also not ready to stop Rahul's arrest in connection with the case. The court will hear the case in detail on Monday. It has asked the prosecution to clarify its position.
Mamkootathil filed the anticipatory bail application in the second rape case. A decision on granting bail will be taken after receiving the statement of the complainant.
A 23-year-old woman living outside Kerala had sent an email to the Congress leadership explaining the brutal harassment she faced from the MLA. The KPCC leadership then forwarded the complaint to the DGP. Further action will be taken after contacting the complainant, it is learned.
The complaint contains serious allegations. It is revealed that Rahul, who had known the complainant for years, proposed marriage and raped her. When she returned home for vacation, he took her to his friend's homestay, saying that they needed to discuss future matters, where he brutally raped and assaulted her, according to the complainant.
The survivor says that Mamkootatil is a 'sexual predator' who cheats and exploits women by making false promises, and is a person who is a contradiction to the responsibilities of a public servant. Earlier, when allegations were made against Mamkootatil, the Crime Branch had collected information from this survivor. However, it is learned that the agency was not ready to take legal action.
The anticipatory bail application in the second case came after the High Court temporarily stayed Mangkootatil’s arrest in the first rape case. Justice K Babu, who did not go into the merits of the case, said that other matters will be considered after hearing the detailed arguments on December 15. The police have not been able to find Mamkootathil, who has gone absconding, even on the tenth day. There are unconfirmed reports that he is in Karnataka.
