Sabarimala gold heist: Congress MP seeks probe into CPI(M) leader John Brittas’s alleged links with accused

Thiruvananthapuram: Senior Congress leader and MP Adoor Prakash on Saturday demanded a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the alleged connections between CPI(M) Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas and Unnikrishnan Potti, the main accused in the Sabarimala gold theft case. Raising serious allegations, Prakash claimed that phone records indicate regular contact between Brittas and Potti, warranting an independent investigation into the nature of their relationship.

"All phone conversations between them must be scrutinised by the SIT," Prakash asserted, emphasising the need for transparency. The Congress leader, who also serves as the convenor of the United Democratic Front (UDF), addressed the controversy surrounding Potti’s meeting with Sonia Gandhi, a point repeatedly raised by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Prakash clarified that Potti had sought the meeting solely to offer 'prasadam' and that proper permission had been obtained.

Explaining his own presence at the meeting, Prakash stated he only accompanied Potti because the accused is a voter from his constituency, adding that he had no prior knowledge of Potti's involvement in criminal activities. The allegations against Brittas, a close aide of the Chief Minister, mark a sharp counter-attack from the Congress MP following repeated jabs from the state leadership regarding the party high command's interaction with the accused.
