Thiruvananthapuram: The three districts of Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, and Idukki are under a red alert from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) until Tuesday, meaning that the state remains on high alert. It is anticipated that these districts will see exceptionally high rainfall exceeding 204.4 mm. The districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, and Thrissur are under an orange alert until Tuesday. Rainfall in these districts is predicted to range from 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm.

With rainfall forecast to range from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm, yellow alerts have been issued for the districts of Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod until Tuesday.

Fishermen are urged by the IMD to wait until May 24 before venturing into the sea, The New Indian Express reported.

According to the IMD prediction, a cyclonic circulation is located 1.5–5.8 km above mean sea level over north Kerala and its surrounding areas. IMD predicts that strong lower-level westerly/south-westerly winds will likely dominate over Kerala until May 24.

This means that until Wednesday, May 22, there is a strong probability of widespread rainfall activity over Kerala, including heavy to very heavy rainfall with sporadic episodes of really heavy rainfall. In isolated places, heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted on Wednesday. On May 24, heavy rainfall is predicted in isolated regions.

Additionally, the IMD's forecast alerts viewers to the possibility of thunderstorms with lightning and strong gusts that could reach 30 to 40 kmph on Tuesday in one or two locations around the state. From Wednesday to Friday, similar thunderstorm activity with lightning is predicted in one or two locations in Kerala.
