As crimes against women and dowry deaths reported in the state surge, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday informed that his government's priority is to open special courts to try cases related to crimes against women and children. There are no plans as of now to set up any other court in the state, he said. The CM was responding to a question raised by MLA Xavier Chittilappilly on setting up new courts in the state.

"The government has taken no decision at present on the setting up of new courts. Considering the present circumstances, priority is given to start special courts to try cases related to crimes against women and children," Vijayan said. The Wadakkanchery sub-court is third on the priority list for setting up new courts. Once they are ready, only then would the government look into setting up other courts, the CM clarified.
