Polling underway for 2nd phase of Kerala local body elections

Kozhikode: The second phase of local body elections has begun in the state. Polling is underway in seven districts from Thrissur to Kasaragod. Most polling booths became active by 7 a.m. Voting will continue until 6 p.m. Many places reported unexpected EVM malfunctions.

By the end of the first half-hour on Thursday morning, polling had not begun in 133 booths. Mock polling was still pending in 81 booths. A total of 38,994 candidates are seeking votes in 12,391 wards across 604 local bodies in the seven districts where an intense campaign has taken place. The statewide results will be announced on Saturday.

District-wise polling percentage until 9.30 a.m:

Thrissur – 8.94%

Palakkad – 9.18%

Malappuram – 8.78%

Kozhikode – 8.61%

Wayanad – 9.91%

Kannur – 8.4%

Kasaragod – 8.75%
