PFI leaders remanded in NIA custody for seven days

Kochi: The Popular Front of India functionaries who were detained during the raid of their offices were remanded in custody in jail on Saturday by the NIA Special Court in Kochi. The custody period will come to an end on September 30 at 11 am.
The remand report filed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has alleged that the Popular Front of India had prepared a 'hit list' targeting the prominent leaders of a particular community, and are trying to bring an Islamic rule to the country. The NIA stated before the court that they required more time with the accused to properly investigate the case.
On September 22, a multi-agency operation conducted by the NIA and ED resulted in the arrest of 106 members of the Popular Front of India across 13 States, including Kerala, for allegedly aiding terrorist activities throughout the nation.
The maximum number of arrests were made in Kerala. They were personally questioned by the NIA Director General Dinkar Gupta. Delhi Patiala House Court has allowed four days for questioning of the arrested. PFI chairman OMA Salam, Kerala unit - state chief CP Mohammed Basheer, former chairman E Abubacker and national secretary Nazarudheen Elamaram are among those who have been taken to Delhi.
