LIFE Mission case: Another setback for CBI as HC dismisses petition for early hearing

Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Tuesday quashed a petition filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) seeking early hearing of the petitions filed to quash the CBI FIR in the LIFE Mission case.

Last week a single bench of the court had stayed the CBI investigation against the CEO of LIFE Mission Project for two months.

On Tuesday, the State government's counsel argued that the early hearing application moved by the Central agency before filing the counter-affidavit, was to get the attention of the press.

The CBI's counsel also asked for more time to file counter-affidavit in the matter and also to get the date of the Assistant Solicitor General of India, who will argue the matter.

The bench of Justice P V Kunhikrishnan said that the early hearing application cannot be entertained at the present stage when the CBI was seeking time for filing counter-affidavit.

CBI had registered an FIR on a complaint filed by Congress MLA who alleged violations of the Foreign Contributions Regulation Act over the receipt of contributions from the UAE for the construction of apartments for flood-victims under the LIFE Mission project.
