Kerala records 273 Covid cases in May; Minister urges tighter monitoring

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Health Minister Veena George has called for heightened Covid-19 surveillance across all districts in response to rising cases in Southeast Asia.
During a meeting with district medical and surveillance officers on Friday, George emphasised the need for swift action and close monitoring of infections.
In May, Kerala reported 273 Covid-19 cases, the minister said.
Kottayam recorded the highest number of Covid-19 cases in May with 82 infections, followed by Thiruvananthapuram (73), Ernakulam (49), Pathanamthitta (30), and Thrissur (26).
Health Minister Veena George emphasised the importance of early reporting and self-care in curbing the virus's spread. She urged individuals experiencing symptoms like cough, sore throat, or breathing difficulties to wear masks as a precaution.
Elderly people, pregnant women, and those with serious health problems are advised to wear masks in public and while travelling.
Masks remain mandatory in hospitals, and health workers must wear them at all times. The public is also asked to avoid unnecessary visits to hospitals, she said.
