Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Police on Sunday announced the arrest of 284 individuals and the registration of 273 cases as part of its ongoing special drive to combat drug trafficking.

As per an official statement, the operation, named D-Hunt, targeted suspected narcotics traffickers. On March 15, authorities conducted inspections on 2,841 individuals suspected of drug-related activities, leading to the arrest of 284 people.

Authorities seized a variety of banned substances from the arrested individuals, including 26.433 grams of MDMA, 35.2 kilograms of ganja, and 193 ganja beedis.

Operation D-Hunt is being led by the State Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Head and ADGP (Law and Order) Manoj Abraham, in collaboration with the Range-based NDPS Coordination Cell and District Police Chiefs, under the guidance of State Police Chief Dr Sheikh Darvesh Sahib.

To strengthen public involvement, a 24-hour Anti-Narcotics Control Room (9497927797) has been established to receive confidential information regarding drug-related activities. The identities of those contacting the helpline will be kept anonymous.

The operation is set to continue in the coming days, with authorities focusing on sustained surveillance and creating a database of individuals regularly involved in drug-related activities and transactions.
