Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday assured the timely rehabilitation of landslide survivors from Wayanad, emphasising the government's commitment to completing all necessary works without delay. According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office, Vijayan directed officials to ensure the urgent disbursal of monthly rent for the accommodation of affected families.

The assurance came during a high-level meeting convened to review the progress of the proposed township project for residents of Mundakkai and Chooralmala hamlets in Wayanad, which were severely impacted by a landslide last year. The government has now set a timeline to obtain administrative, technical, and financial approvals required for the township’s construction.

“The rehabilitation of those affected by the landslide in Mundakkai and Chooralmala will be completed on time,” the Chief Minister stated during the meeting.

He also directed the concerned departments to swiftly complete all formalities related to the permitted cutting of trees, reorganisation of power distribution systems, and other essential works linked to the rehabilitation process.

Further, Vijayan instructed officials to expedite disbursement of aid from the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund, appoint additional personnel where needed, and accelerate the removal of debris from water bodies to facilitate smooth water flow.

The meeting was attended by Cabinet Ministers K. Rajan and K. N. Balagopal, Chief Secretary A. Jayathilak, and other senior officials.
