Kerala boy's suicide: father files complaint raising suspicion
text_fieldsKochi: In the case of a Kerala boy committing suicide over the alleged brutal ragging he endured from school, the boy’s father surfaced with a complaint alleging suspicion. Mihir was living with his mother and stepfather.
The father, Shafiq Madambat, of the boy, Mihir Ahmed, said that he maintained regular communication with his child and claimed that Mihir returned home from school happy on the day of his death. Mihir never mentioned any problem he was facing, Shafiq claimed. He wondered how, when the boy returned home with a pleasant mind, he could commit suicide.
Kerala Police is investigating the boy’s death case under the charge of abetment of suicide.
Meanwhile, the authorities at the Global Public School (GPS), where the boy was studying and allegedly got subjected to ragging, wrote the parents of the students there a letter painting deceased Mihir in a bad light, The New Indian Express reported.
According to the letter, Mihir was forced to leave the school he was studying after an incident with a female student. The letter also claimed Mihir entered into a fight with other students in GPS.
The letter alleged that Mihir was forced to take a transfer certificate from Gems Modern Academy, the mentioned previous school after he physically assaulted a female student.
The school claimed that it conducted an enquiry over Mihir being subjected to ragging and found no evidence or eye witness to any incident of that kind. Those involved in the probe, including teachers and students, have denied any such incidents.
The school claimed that it has zero tolerance for ragging and bullying.
However, Mihir’s mother rebutted the allegations. She said that Gems Modern Academy actually wanted Mihir to continue there, it was only them who demanded for a TC.
Gem had recently suspended the vice principal, who allegedly harassed Mihir after his death and the related uproar emerged in public.
Mihir’s mother also said that the school’s claim that the boy’s parents never flagged him as being harassed or bullied is false.
