Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala government has reportedly decided to vaccinate people aged 40 and above regardless of whether they fall into the priority group or not. However, people with co-morbidities will be given priority to get vaccine over others, a statement released yesterday said.

The Centre announced people aged 18 and above will be vaccinated, admitting them into the priority category considering their co-morbidities.

In a statement, Kerala Health Minister Veena George said that "Vaccination will now be given to those who are 40 (including those who will turn 40 by January 1, 2022) and above, without considering priority groups. The National Health Mission has released a circular for this. Everyone aged 40 and above will get the vaccine now. Vaccination following priority lists will continue for others aged 18 and above."

The earlier announced vaccination of 45 and above age group will continue to receive vaccine no matter whether fall into the priority group or not, the Minister said.

The vaccination slot for the age group 40 to 44 will be given considering the priority of registration done on the Cowin portal and spot registration will not be allowed for this group.

Vaccination for people aged 60 years and above and for others aged 45 to 59 having co-morbidities began on March 1. This was on April 1 extended to everyone aged 45 and above, regardless of whether they have co-morbidities or not.
