Guruvayur Devaswom Board gets first female member after 48 yrs
text_fieldsGuruvayur: After almost fifty years, the Guruvayur Devaswom Board, which manages the renowned Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple, has appointed a woman member, coinciding with International Women’s Day on Sunday.
M U Shinija has been nominated to the nine-member administrative panel, marking the first woman appointment since the Guruvayur Devaswom rules were amended in 1978. Reports say the board had female representation during the 1970s, but no woman had been appointed after the rules were revised.
Shinija has been nominated as a representative of the Communist Party of India (CPI).
A V Gopinath, who took oath as the new Chairman of the Guruvayur Devaswom Board, welcomed the appointment. “It is really great that the Board got a woman member on International Women’s Day,” he told the media during the oath-taking ceremony held here.
