Thiruvananthapuram: Just days after Maharashtra annulled the general consent granted to CBI, Kerala government also is thinking along the same course.

CPI (M) has urged the government to deliberate on the move and urged the government to seek legal advice in this regard. The party's state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan confirmed this to media after the secretariat meeting which was attended by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan too.

The state government may follow suit of certain other states which have cancelled the general consent granted to the Central agency to take up any cases for investigation.

The CPM and the state government were offended lately by a CBI investigation into LIFE Mission project. The investigation, initiated without a permission from the government or a direction from the high court, had vexed the government.

The government may move into further actions in the coming days as CPM and the LDF have given the nod.

On October 21, the Government of Maharashtra withdrew the general consent granted by it in 1989 to the CBI.

In July, this year, the Rajasthan Government had withdrawn its general consent accorded to the Central Bureau of Investigation. Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal governments had withdrawn their "general consent" in 2018 itself.
