Fraternity Movement conducts Medical Summit in Kozhikode

Kozhikode: A medical summit titled ‘Care as a Fraternal Practice’ was held today at the Muhammed Abdhurahiman Sahib Memorial Jubilee Hall in Kozhikode. The event was jointly organised by the state committee of the Fraternity Movement and Medical Fraterns. Welfare Party State President Razak Paleri inaugurated the program.

In his inaugural address, he said that elitism in professional campuses continues to subject Dalits, backward communities, and marginalised groups to discrimination, and called on the state government to implement the Rohith Act as a corrective measure.

The conference venue was named after Nithin Raj, who was a victim of a systemic killing at Anjarakandy Dental College, Kannur.

The event featured discussions by several prominent figures, including renowned pediatrician and human rights activist Dr. Kafeel Khan, surgeon and professor S. S. Santhosh Kumar, public health expert S. S. Lal, noted health policy analyst Sylvia Karpagam, community medicine professor A. Altaf, Kerala Health Department Deputy Director Saiju Hameed, MediaOne Academy Director Sadiq P. K., Shanti Hospital General Manager Mubarak Omassery, physiotherapy head Mohammed Najeeb K., and Fraternity Movement state president Naeem Gafoor.

The summit was attended by over 600 medical students and professionals from more than 30 sectors across Kerala.

A resolution was presented at the summit calling for the implementation of the Rohith Act in Kerala to address caste discrimination and Islamophobia. An exhibition titled “The Last Sky”, depicting Dr Santhosh Kumar’s experiences in Gaza, was also held at the venue.

Ensuring decentralisation of healthcare services and equity in treatment has become a pressing need of the present time. The summit discussed the need for active engagement by medical students and healthcare professionals to ensure that marginalised communities receive fair consideration. Contemporary challenges in the health sector and issues of injustice in medical care were key topics of discussion.

The summit aimed to promote justice-oriented medical practices and the democratisation of healthcare, offering a new direction for the next generation of medical professionals.

The summit, which discussed various challenges in the healthcare sector, concluded around 9 PM with a cultural night.

Fraternity Movement state general secretary T. K. Mohammed Saeed, vice president Labib Kayakkodi, secretary Shibin Rahman, state committee members, Medical Fraterns state convener Ishma Salim, council members, and summit convener Fahad also spoke in various sessions.
