Kochi: In a crackdown on an online fraud case, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached assets worth Rs 39 lakh belonging to actor Jaisurya. The case involves the Save Box app, which promised franchise opportunities and online auctions to dupe investors of lakhs. Thrissur native Saadiq Rahim, the company owner, was arrested earlier by police.

ED questioned Jaisurya twice over allegations he promoted the app to the public. The agency found he received around Rs 1 crore from the scam, with funds transferred from main accused Saadiq Rahim's account to Jaisurya's and his wife Sarita's accounts. Jaisurya claimed it was payment for acting as brand ambassador.

When asked about future risks, Jaisurya responded: "Who among us can predict what scams those approaching for ads might tie us to tomorrow?"

The app lured users with promises of electronics and products at low prices via online auctions, requiring purchases of virtual coins for bidding. Thrissur East police arrested Saadiq Rahim in 2023 after he defrauded around 100 people of crores.
