Devasom conspired to sabotage Pooram to influence LS polls: Kerala Police

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Police ADGP MR Ajithkumar, who probed the Thrissur Pooram sabotage, submitted his report to the state government and gave clean chit to Kerala Police. The report, which was submitted to the state police chief, has been released to the public.

The report stated that the Pooram was sabotaged by the Thiruvambadi Devaswom, which conducts the event itself with the intention of influencing voters ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. The Thiruvambadi Devaswom conspired to sabotage the Pooram, the report stated.

Although the report names some people from the Devaswom, it does not directly mention that it was the BJP who made gains through the Pooram row in the 2024 general elections. It was after the row that Lok Sabha polls happened in Kerala, and BJP candidate Suresh Gopi was elected to Lok Sabha from Thrissur.

Madhyamam reported that though the investigation report was submitted before the state DGP, he rejected it and criticised the ADGP. Now, a three-tier investigation is going on after a recommendation by the Home Department.

The Ajith Kumar report says that since the beginning of the Pooram, the Thiruvambady Devaswom has been putting forward illegal and unenforceable proposals. This was part of the reason why the ceremonies had to be stopped.

The report also says that the aim was to win the general elections by moving against the government. It is not revealed which political party tried to gain an advantage in the election, but the names of a state vice president of the BJP and a prominent leader of the RSS in the state have been included as appendices in the form of statements.

The report also says that Devasom had reached a decision prior to the Pooram to sabotage if its demands were not allowed.
