Wayanad: Just above Punchirimattam, the epicentre of the landslides that occurred on July 30 and left over 200 people dead in the region, a mudslide occurred on Saturday.

The district administration stated that it has issued a cautionary notice to anyone doing searches or other activity in the area.

Over 200 people died and 78 are still missing in the landslides that hit Mundakkai and Chooralmala areas of Wayanad on July 30.

Senior scientist John Matthai of the National Centre for Geosciences, who led the team that inspected the region devastated by the landslides stated that it would be better to avoid living in Punchiri Mattam in the long run. "Most of Chooralmala is safe," he said. "In the long term, it would be safer to avoid living in areas close to the river at Punchiri Mattam.”
