New Delhi: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday said Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan was "acting as a tool of the RSS"

The spat between the government and the governor has played out in the media for too long with parties to the conflict continuing to target each other.

Pinarayi Vijayan's comment came a day after the governor asked the vice chancellors of nine varsities in the state to tender their resignation.

While calling the governor's directive "Undemocratic and "encroachment", the chief minister said that governor's post is to uphold the Constitution's dignity, not to act against the government, according to India Today.

The directive from the Governor asked for the resignation of vice chancellors of University of Kerala, Mahatma Gandhi University, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kerala University of Fisheries & Ocean studies, Kannur University, APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, University of Calicut, and Thunchath Ezhuthachan Malayalam University.
