The ‘Right’ in Left tackles CPM against KC(M)’s Jose faction

"Thiruvananthapuram: It has started appearing that the CPI’s stance is the only deterrence before Kerala Congress (M)’s shift to the Left front.
The CPI was the first to oppose the move before any other party could raise the issue in the Left Democratic Front.
On the other hand, an article of the CPM State Secretary was published on the issue in their mouthpiece on Thursday.
The CPI State Secretary was not less harsh as he criticized Kodiyeri’s statement on the public support the KC(M) enjoys. Hence, the political turmoil became stronger in the LDF than in the UDF.
CPM holds that CPI’s stance is baseless. It is assessed that Kanam’s statement is a pre-emptive move to avoid more compromise in terms of seat sharing during elections and not to lose the position the party now enjoys in the alliance as the second foremost party.
CPM has always held that a favourable political situation should be seized to weaken the opposition. Thus they argue for empowerment and expansion of the alliance by inducting the now available Jose faction.
CPM leaders point out that the current political context is different from the earlier one taken in the case of DIC.
CPM leadership also has the apprehension that the favourable political condition may be frittered away due to the CPI’s opposition. The party wants to settle the issue before the confusion grips the lower rungs of the party. It was in this scenario that the issue was decided to be taken up in the Friday’s CPM State Secretariat.
It is also learnt that the leadership may explain the decision publicly and it will be done by CPM State Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan himself.
