Thiruvananthapuram: The state motor vehicle department has made GPS system mandatory in public vehicles to get fitness certificate. The department officials are instructed to ensure GPS system in the vehicles are functioning during examination and actions should be taken against the non-compliance.

The instruction is furnished in the circular sent from Transport Commissionarate to officials.

The government had issued a circular in November 2019 making installation of GPS system mandatory.

New public transport vehicles are launched with Vehicle Location Tracking Device fitted by the manufacturers as per the central government's rule.
