Lapse in dam management led to flood: Amicus Curiae report

Thiruvananthapuram:  A lapse in dam management led to last year’s devastating floods, said the report submitted by Amicus Curiae, while demanding a judicial probe to find out the reason behind the deluge.

Dams were opened without abiding by the ceteria, according to the 49-page report submitted by Jacob P Alex to the High Court.

It recomends a judidical probe to ascertain if safety guidelines were observed while opening the dams. 

The report underlines the fact that the government had not taken into account the warning by Met dearptment,  and had not taken adequate preventive measures.

The Amicus Curiae was appointed following several petitions filed by different parties arguing the state government made serious lapses in managing the flood.
