SC annuls withdrawal of case against PK Basheer MLA

New Delhi: The case relating to the controversial speech of Eranad MLA P K Basheer will stand, said the apex court.
The Supreme Court cancelled the decision of the UDF government to withdraw the case against the Muslim League MLA Basheer.
The VS Achuthananthan government had registered a case against MLA Basheer for his controversial speech he delivered in 2008.
When the Oommen Chandy government came to power, it withdrew the case.
A petitioner Ayyub approached the SC against the move to withdraw the case. The SC verdict followed that.
The apex court also dismissed the verdict of the magistrate court which cancelled the case. The court will have to reconsider whether the case could be withdrawn.
The 2-judge bench observed that the public prosecutor has acted like the post office of the government.
