Bishop Mulakkal's plea for bail rejected by HC

Kochi: Kerala High Court on Wednesday rejected the bail petition of Bishop Franco Mulakkal who was arrested for charges of sexual harassment of a nun.
The court observed that there is prima facie a case against the bishop, and concurred with the argument of the Prosecution that if bail is granted the case be overturned.
The Prosecution pointed out that the enquiry in the case is in its crucial phase and at this stage bail cannot be granted. The government also submitted to the court the case diary, copy of statements and progress report of the enquiry.
The court had heard arguments of both sides last week and posted it for order on Wednesday.
The petitioner pleaded that the complaint by the nun and the case were fabricated. He mentioned that the first statement of the nun did not state that had had made sexual intercourse by force. He also produced before the court pictures of the bishop and the nun at a function on a day following the date of the alleged harassment.
