One more Nipah virus death  in Kozhikode

Kozhikode: One more casualty has been reported from Nipah virus that has caused nearly a dozen deaths earlier.

The latest death takes the toll to 13. The victim who died on Saturday, is Kalyani (62) from Narippatta, Kuttiadi, and is related to Janaki an earlier victim. Kalyani was admitted to Kozhikode Medical College's payward. Hospital superintendent Dr KG Sajith Kumar informed that the deceased was diagnosed with the virus infection earlier. Currently there are three patients with confirmed affliction of the virus.

Meanwhile, another meeting was held with Health Minister KK Shailaja at the chair to discuss the preventive measures against the Nipah virus contagion. The meeting decided that only in emergency cases should patients be admitted to Medical College. The Minister directed that others should be discharged from the wards to reduce crowding. The directives issued by the meeting said that employees should be granted leave only in emergencies, that they should strictly follow the dress code, and minimise use of mobile phones.
