text_fieldsKannur: The police on Monday filed a chargesheet in the murder of Youth Congress worker S.P. Shuhaib in the court of judicial first class magistrate at Mattannur here.
The chargesheet has named 11 accused who have already been arrested in connection with the murder of Shuhaib at Edayannur on February 12. The accused are M.V. Akash, Rijin Raj, A. Jibin, C.S. Deepchand, Baiju, T.K. Askar, K. Akhil, K. Sanjay, K. Rajath, Anwar Sadath and Sangeeth. All the accused are Communist Party of India (Marxist) workers or sympathisers. While the first five accused were directly involved in the murder, Askar was the driver of the vehicle in which they reached the murder spot. The remaining accused were involved in assisting the prime accused.
The chargesheet was submitted before the mandatory 90 days after the arrests in the case. It states that political animosity was the motive behind the murder. The investigating officers said supplementary charge sheet would be filed as and when the police make more arrests in the case.
The murder of Shuhaib had drawn wide condemnation and was highlighted by the Congress as part of its political campaign that the CPI(M) was unleashing politics of elimination against its rivals.
