Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Governor Justice P. Sathasivam on Wednesday asked for a report from Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on the twin murders, one in Puducherry-ruled Mahe and the other in New Mahe, part of Kannur district on Monday night.

The Governor asked the state government o explain the steps taken to ensure peace after the killings. He also expressed anxiety over the political killings in the state and asked the government to clarify whether the law and order situation had failed.

“There were instances of violence after the killings which was worrisome,” the governor said.

CPM leader Kannipoyyil Babu was hacked to death when he was returning home at Palloor in Mahe, part of Puducherry. RSS worker U.C. Shamej was attacked in retaliation at New Mahe.

Babu’s murder is being investigated by Puducherry police under Mahe circle inspector A. Shanmukham while Thalassery Circle Inspector Premachandran is probing the murder of Shamej.

“There were instances of violence after the killings which was worrisome,” the governor said. Police say that the murders were planned in advance.

Babu’s murder is being investigated by Puducherry police under Mahe circle inspector A. Shanmukham while Thalassery Circle Inspector Premachandran is probing the murder of Shamej.

In a related development, the police chiefs of the two states, Kerala and Puduchery met on Wednesday and discussed ways of co-operating with each other, although for reasons of jurisdictions neither case can be investigated by both states.
