Kochi: An Afghanistan national was arrested from Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery here on Wednesday with foreign currency worth over Rs 10 crore.

Most of the currency notes seized from Yousuf Muhammed Siddique, 33, were in US dollars.

He was caught during a security check ahead of boarding an Emirates flight at 4.30 am.

The currencies were found in the X-Ray scanning of his baggage.

The seizure is believed to be one of the biggest currency hauls in the country. Siddique landed in Kochi by an Air India flight from Delhi to Dubai via Kochi.

The passengers were shifted to hotels in Kochi after the flight developed a technical snag. The passengers were scheduled to be sent to Dubai by various flights on Wednesday.
