Kozhikode: Samastha Kerala Jem-Iyyathul Ulema has set up a five-member committee to recommend action against two members of the Panakkad family for participating in the Mujahid state conference.

An urgent meeting of the available members of the Mushawara (supreme body) of the Samastha and the office-bearers of the affiliated organizations under the Sunni body, held at its headquarters at Chelari in Malappuram district on Monday, entrusted the committee to recommend action against Panakkad Rashid Ali Shihab Thangal and Munvvar Ali Shihab Thangal.

The committee comprises Samastha president Syed Muhammad Jiffri Muthukoya Thangal, vice president Panakkad Syed Hyder Ali Shihab Thangal, general secretary Prof. K Alikutty Musliyar, M T Abdullah Musliyar, and Dr Bahauddeen Muhammed Nadwi.

The committee will announce its decision at the meeting of the 40-member Mushawara, to be held on January 10.

Rashid and Munvvar Ali Thangal had attended two sessions at the Mujahid conference on Saturday, despite Samastha leaders' strong objection.

Rashid Ali Thangal is the Malappuram district president of Sunni Mahal Federation while Munvvar Ali is the chairman of Trend, the education wing of SKSSF.

While talking to Madhyamam, Rashid Ali said he would accept any decision taken by the committee. However, Munvvar Ali said he was yet to be officially informed of the setting up of the committee.
