Situation in Chengannur critical

Several areas in Chengannur and Alappuzha taluks were isolated and many people were stranded in their homes awaiting rescue.
The situation in Pandanad and Edanad also continues to be critical. Army boats have rushed to Pandanad after news of people having no drinking water for days occupied the headlines.
Rescue operations are progressing with the help of Air Force and Navy.
The district administration has sought the help of the Indian Navy to evacuate the stranded people.
The Indian Coast Guard, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) have already been deployed in the affected areas.
As per the reports, people from Pathanamthitta and Thiruvananthapuram have reached Chengannur to take part in the rescue operations. Four helicopters have set off to Chengannur.
In some places, stranded people are forced to drink rain water.
Several houses have been submerged and roads inundated in the fresh flash floods in Kuttanad.
Various parts in Mavelikkara namely Chennithala, Mannar and Niranam are waterlogged. Alerts have been issued to the people to stay safe.
